TAS:Rock throwing may cancel Hobart bus routes
HOBART, Aug 25 AAP - A spate of rock throwing incidents may force Hobart's public bus
operator to cancel routes in the city's northern suburbs.
Metro Tasmania said buses travelling through Bridgewater and Gagebrook have been hit
and damaged by rocks in the past few weeks.
"Despite working closely with Tasmania Police for the past fortnight, the rock-throwing
has continued," Metro CEO Heather Haselgrove said.
"At this stage, only buses have been damaged. No one travelling on or driving a bus
has been hurt."
Ms Haselgrove said the company will consider terminating buses before they reach the
affected suburbs.
"Metro's main priority is the safety of passengers and staff. If the rock-throwing
does not stop, Metro will suspend services travelling through Bridgewater and Gagebrook,"
she said.
"Any suspension of services is regrettable. However, Metro must act in the best interests
of passenger and driver safety."
