NSW: Man in bouncy boots bids for treadmill record

Running on the spot wearing exercise shoes which resemble ski boots on large springs,
MICHAEL BURTON is on his way to beating a treadmill world record.

For years Sydneysiders have marvelled at the sight of a black American man in a tight
lycra suit bounding along city streets on bouncy exercise boots.

And it has all been leading up to today's record-breaking effort, currently taking
place on the corner of George Street in Sydney's CBD.

Mr BURTON, aged 46, is attempting to break the Guinness Book of Records' greatest distance
run on a treadmill record, which is 81 kilometres run in a 12-hour period.

Mr BURTON hopes to run 100 kilometres, almost the equivalent of two-and-a-half Olympic marathons.

He has regularly been seen training for the record attempt - running through the city
averaging between 25 and 42 kilometres a day.

The attempt is due to end about 10pm (AEST).

Mr BURTON has said breaking the record should be a walk in the park.
