Vic: Delahunty scotches retirement rumours = 2

Ms Delahunty said she would run at the next election and had no reason to quit because
she was having a "terrific year in politics".

"I am denying this and I wish we had been approached to discuss this," she said.

She said no-one from the press had contacted her to discuss the rumour.

It was also reported that actor Sigrid Thornton was believed to top the ALP's list
of possible candidates for Ms Delahunty's seat of Northcote if the minister was to resign.

Ms Thornton was first touted as a possible ALP candidate in 2001.

Ms Delahunty did not comment on the matter and Ms Thornton could not be contacted.

Ms Delahunty was a television presenter with the ABC before entering politics.

"I certainly have been very well supported by the Labor Party," she said.

"It's quite true I did not have a political apprenticeship. I came in a very different
way and I guess that's the reason I'm a bit of a target for speculation about all sorts
of things.

"It must be the silly season."
